What’s in Ida Lauga’s shelf?

The first thing that strikes us when entering is the cosiness of their home. We fall in love with the small ceramics plates and sculptures on shelves and tables, as well as the kids’ art that are decorating the walls.

Do you re-arrange a lot at home?

Oh yes, once every month. In the night when the kids have fallen asleep we take a drink and make plans. The day after we go to Bauhaus, the whole gang. The kids think it’s as much fun as we do. Sometimes we build a headboard and sometimes we re-paint a room. But, sometimes our planning gets a little too spontaneous. Our sofa is actually dark blue, but we ordered it after a couple of glasses of wine. When it came it was way too big and dark. I sewed a new case for it  and now I really like it.

Your husband Leo is French and you used to live in Paris. What do you miss about it?

I miss the cheese! And that you could find a delicious bottle of wine just around the corner. Maybe 10 pm if you’d like. I miss the spontaneity a little, and apéro!

Are there differences between how you and your Paris based friends furnish your homes?

I think Swedes are way more practically oriented compared to the French. Here we want big hallways and laundry rooms and it’s all very functional. Our friends in France have never heard about children safety in the home. They have a sculpture in the hallway instead of a shoe rack.

But, they never heard about windproof windows or the word Lagom either, so you can choose what ideas to bring back here 🙂

We’re so glad to see TÔNN Furniture’s in almost every room. Pill mirrors in the bathrooms, Plateau shelf in the hallway and the PORTAL shelving system in both living room and bathroom.

Tell us about your shelves. How do you use them?

In the living room we have our finest books, some candle lights and ceramics, and the bigger Portal shelf version also holds the TV, that I don’t really like. I find it so hard to incorporate with the interior. But I think it’s so cosy watching TV, that’s why we still have it. But it still looks nice there on the shelf with the paintings around.

In the bathroom we have a higher version of the shelf. It works so well for towels, baskets and boxes with toilet things.

What do you like about the shelving system?

I think that it is so flexible. We have already moved it around some times since we re-arrange every now and then, and it really works so well in so many spaces. As storage, of course, but also as a TV bench or a sideboard. For all the rooms in your home!

Before we leave, I must ask about your feeling about interior and small children.

I don’t want to have temporary furniture until my kids are “big enough”. I don’t want to compromise with the interior and also I want them to grow up in a nice home. Hopefully they will be inspired, and know that they should be careful with some stuff, without having a museum-like home of course. After all, we are all going to live here too.

Thank you so much for having us Ida!
